Albany County launches new housing initiatives
Albany County launches new housing initiatives including first-time home buyer initatives.
Albany County wants to make it easier for residents to buy houses.
County Executive Dan McCoy announced two new initiatives on Monday. Albany County will be seeking proposals for a qualified person or organization for the First-Time Homebuyer Navigator Program. It will make $240,000 available over a three-year period and remove many of the common barriers faced by first-time homebuyers.
The Albany County Legislature will also introduce a local law next month to provide a partial real property tax exemption for people who build accessory dwelling units on their property.
ADUs, as they’re called, are separate residences on the same property as the main home.
McCoy says these initiatives should help people find affordable housing and encourage people to buy.
