Albany leaders honor Sgt. Henry Johnson

The city of Albany is recognizing a selfless hero. City leaders, including Mayor Kathy Sheehan, and residents of Albany honored Sgt. Henry Johnson on Wednesday. This year will mark the 106th anniversary of Sgt. Johnson's act of valor with the 369th Regiment in France during World War I

The city of Albany is recognizing a selfless hero.

City leaders, including Mayor Kathy Sheehan, and residents of Albany honored Sgt. Henry Johnson on Wednesday.

This year will mark the 106th anniversary of Sgt. Johnson’s act of valor with the 369th Regiment in France during World War I

His heroism was posthumously earned him the Medal of Honor from former President Barack Obama in a 2015 White House ceremony.

Sheehan encouraged people to remember Johnson’s bravery and be inspired by it.

“Bravery is standing up for yourself and others. Bravery is demanding that you get the rights that you are entitled to.

Bravery is about investing in you and recognizing that you have a bright future ahead of you.”

Nominations are being accepted for the Henry Johnson Award for Community Service.
