Albany man admits to fake loan scheme that stole from SEFCU
A 53-year-old Albany man has pleaded guilty to stealing $113,800 in bank funds by applying for fraudulent loans.
Allahson Allah, formerly known as Gwyn Cancer, admitted in U.S. District Court that between February and October 2022, he organized a conspiracy to defraud SEFCU by stealing people’s identities and applying for loans. Then, they withdrew the money in cash, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
They used fake New York driver’s licenses with their photographs but bearing the names and dates of birth of other people.
Allah faces 2 to 32 years in prison and a fine of up to $1.25 million when sentenced on Oct. 21. He also must forfeit the money obtained through the scheme.
Also charged in this case are Evan Cutler, of Queensbury and three other Albany residents – Davon Parson, Dnauticah Taylor-Sterman and Caeshara Cannon, a former member service manager at SEFCU.
Parson, Cannon and Taylor-Sterman have all pleaded guilty. The charges against Cutler are pending.
