An Amsterdam man has been convicted on charges related to a case of domestic violence.
Shareef Jackson, 42, was convicted of a charge of first-degree criminal contempt, after a four-day trial.
Jackson strangled a woman inside an apartment on Cornell Street in Amsterdam last June, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
When police arrived, the woman’s neck was swollen and bruised and her throat hurt. She had to write on a piece of paper to ask police to remove her from the apartment. Once taken away, she told investigators that Jackson had placed her hands around her neck.
Jackson faces two to four years in prison when he is sentenced May 7.
