Amsterdam woman accused of welfare fraud

Police have accused an Amsterdam woman of welfare fraud.

Sara Thames, 56, allegedly did not report all the income earned in the household on an application for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The document was filed in March 2023.

Thames was charged with welfare fraud and offering a false instrument for filing. She was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and released on her own recognizance.
