‘Battlefield’ to be added back to Saratoga National Park’s name

Bill passes to rename site to Saratoga National Battlefield Park

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik's bill passes to rename site to Saratoga National Battlefield Park

A historically significant site in Saratoga County is on its way to being renamed to more accurately reflect its history.

The Saratoga National Historical Park will soon be known as Saratoga National Battlefield Park.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik sponsored the legislation, which passed on the House floor on Tuesday.

The park commemorates the Battles of Saratoga, which were pivotal in securing American independence during the Revolutionary War.

The park was originally named Saratoga Battlefield Park, but when it became a national park in 1938, the word battlefield was dropped from the name.

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors issued a statement praising the bill’s passage. Chairman Phil Barrett thanked Stefanik for getting this passed.

“This name change will clearly identify the historical significance of the park for tourists and locals alike and is a timely honor for this hallowed ground as we near the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga and the American Revolutionary War.”
