Class to teach children how to be home alone safely being held in Waterford
The rescue squad in Waterford has a great opportunity for middle school students to learn how to be safe at home alone.
It’s called Safe Sitter, which is a national campaign for kids in sixth to eighth grade. The program provides them with life and safety skills needed to care for themselves and other young children in the class.
They will learn CPR, First Aid and Internet safety – all to make sure they are prepared for potential emergencies.
“It gives parents the peace of mind that their children know how to contact others in case of an emergency that the children will be able to contact a safe adult contact 911 without fear of getting reprimanded or being in trouble,” said EMT Elisabeth Hildenbrandt. “The children are able to function independently with their parents away.”
To sign your child up, you can contact the Waterford Rescue Squad. There are only a few spots left. The class begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning ahead of the annual Waterford Canal Fest. Another Safe Sitter course is scheduled for July 17.
