Clifton Park native retires as New York Air National Guard commander

There is a new commander of the New York Air National Guard.

There is a new commander of the New York Air National Guard.

New York Air National Guard Maj. Gen. Denise Donnell, a Clifton Park native, turned over command of the 5,800 member New York Air National Guard to Brig. Gen. Michael Bank on Monday morning. Bank is from Darien Center in the western part of the state.

A ceremony was held at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham.

Donnell, who has led the nation’s largest Air Guard component since 2022, retired Saturday after 31 years of service. That includes nine years in the Navy and 22 years in the Air National Guard.
