Columbia County man accused of choking person
Police have arrested a Columbia County man for allegedly choking a person during a domestic incident.
Deputies responded to a residence in the town of Copake on Monday for a report of a physical assault. When they attempted to separate the parties, David A. Grant Jr. 38, of Craryville, ran into the woods near the residence, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Police used K-9s, drones and a helicopter was used in the search. State Police assisted.
The victim had minor injuries, police said. Two children that were present were not hurt.
At about 9:50 p.m., Grant surrendered, according to police.
Grant is also accused of damaging property. He was charged obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, criminal mischief, harassment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child because there were children present, police said.
Grant was arraigned in Claverack Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
