Donated hats collected to help kids who have cancer

Hatsgiving collects hats here in the Capital Region and donates them to pediatric cancer facilities across the country. This was started in 2012 by Jeremy Wernick. He was just 8 years old at the time.

Providing soft, warm hats for children who have lost their hair while battling cancer is the goal of a yearly program in the Capital Region.

Hatsgiving collects hats from around the community and donates them to pediatric cancer facilities across the country.

It was started in 2012 by Jeremy Wernick when he was just 8 years old, and a student at Forts Ferry Elementary School in Latham.

He wanted to help people who lose their hair during cancer treatments.

A drop-off took place at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday.

At the end of the year, they will send more than 9,500 hats to 100 cancer centers across the country, according to Jeremy’s father, Jeff Wernick.
