Fort Edward man admits to stealing from Albany Rural Cemetery

A Fort Edward man will be placed on probation after admitting to stealing over $40,000 from the Albany Rural Cemetery.

David Eslinger, 58, pleaded guilty on Thursday to grand larceny and identity theft, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Eslinger was the cemetery’s former general manager. He issued extra paychecks to himself and used the organization’s credit card to pay for gas, meals and trips to Las Vegas, Walt Disney World and gentlemen’s club in New York City, prosecutors said.

Eslinger will be placed on interim probation for one year, and he will have to pay back at least $20,000. If he meets that goal, he will be sentenced to 4 years of probation and will still have to pay back the remaining $20,229 owed.

If he doesn’t pay the $20,000, he faces up to 7 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 23.
