Gansevoort man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

A Gansevoort man is accused of possessing cocaine.

Saratoga Springs Police officers stopped a vehicle on Lake Avenue after the driver made a turn without signaling. After speaking to one of the occupants, the officers observed items that pointed to illegal drug use.

One of the passengers, 39-year-old Jon M. Carpenter, was asked to step out of the vehicle. Carpenter attempted to run, police said, but officers prevented him from getting away. He allegedly resisted arrest and the officers had to use physical force to get him into custody.

Carpenter allegedly had 87 grams of cocaine.

He was charged with two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of governmental administration.

Carpenter was arraigned and held pending a future court appearance.
