Gillibrand seeks to bolster security at northern border
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced a bill to strengthen security at the northern border.
There has been a dramatic uptick in border crossings from Canada to the United States during the last two years – increasing 241% in 2023 to more than 190,000 encounters, Gillibrand said. However, there has not been a review of security since 2018.
Gillibrand, D – N.Y., said the crossings have put a strain on state resources. Also, a number of migrants have died attempting to cross the border in winter.
The bipartisan bill would require a threat analysis every three years.
