Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said she supports a new plan from Gov. Kathy Hochul to ban cell phones, bell-to-bell in schools.

She agrees with Gov. Hochul that social media is designed to get kids addicted to the platform.

“I think it’s a distraction for kids. It’s rotting their brains. Even my kids have their own, they call it ‘doom scrolling’, when you just get sucked into whatever you watch, whether it’s TikTok or Instagram or Reels, and you just keep watching for hours,” she said.

This will all play out before the state budget is adopted, which is anticipated by April 1.
