Ground breaking on $116M, multi-phase project in East Greenbush School District Friday

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (WNYT)- New tennis and basketball courts along with a new roof are coming to Columbia High School.
The East Greenbush School District will be holding a groundbreaking event Friday afternoon to kick off the project approved in 2024. The project is part of a larger one expected to happen over the next five years in six stages.
The $116M project will upgrade facilities and grounds at all seven schools in the district including:
- replacement of HVAC systems to improve indoor air quality and air conditioning throughout the elementary schools
- classroom additions in elementary schools
- library renovations in all schools
- new playgrounds
- improvements to the athletic field
- upgrades to sidewalks and parking lots
- infrastructure upgrades at all schools
The district said 72% of the project costs will be reimbursed by New York State Building Aid.
