Hochul calls for changes to help domestic violence victims
Gov. Kathy Hochul met with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault on Monday.
The governor says New York already does a great deal to help victims, but that even more can be done.
She had previously proposed record-level funding in her budget that would expand access to domestic violence prevention programs, improve medical and law enforcement response, and better support victims.
Now, Hochul is pushing for changes to state law to ensure defendants get all the rights they’re entitled to in court.
The governor goes on to say we must do two things, conduct a fair and speedy trial when it comes to cases of domestic violence or sexual assault, and not let dangerous abusers off the hook.
