Hochul visits Albany school to highlight school lunch programs

The governor paid a visit to Eagle Point Elementary Schol in an Albany school lunchroom to highlight the importance of school lunch programs.

The governor paid a visit to Eagle Point Elementary School in Albany on Thursday to highlight the importance of school lunch programs.

This is part of her State of the State Affordability Agenda.

The governor was there to recommit to her proposal for all of New York’s 2.7 million students.

During her State of the State, Governor Hochul announced she will subsidize the cost of school meals to help address food insecurity and make sure every student can eat for free.

This comes at a time when President Trump announced an order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

“This absolutely flies in the face of what I’m trying to do here in the state of New York, which is to make life more affordable for people, which is why in my budget, I propose to cover the complete cost of breakfast and lunch for families per child,” said Hochul. “It is going to be $1,600 back in their pockets. Two kids, it’s $3,200. You do the math.”
