Late Army veteran honored in Albany County

Albany County honored a veteran on Monday. The honoree for January is Joe King McLaughlin. McLaughlin was born in 1924. He served in the United States Army as a technician. He served on the Red Ball Express during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

Albany County honored a veteran on Monday. The honoree for January is Joe King McLaughlin.

McLaughlin was born in 1924. He served in the United States Army as a technician. He served on the Red Ball Express during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

After serving, McLaughlin was a civil engineer for over 30 years with Callanan Industries and became owner and operator of McLaughlin Grocery Store.

He passed away in 1981.

“What I know about my father’s childhood is only what he told me,” said his son, Manch McLaughlin. “What I know about my father’s life, he showed me. He did not use many words in order to get his point across. His stature allowed to speak for him. His actions he did allowed to speak for him.”

The ceremony was hosted by County Executive Dan McCoy, Congressman Paul Tonko and the Albany Veterans Service Bureau.
