New senior apartments open in Latham
The newest apartment building for Colonie seniors was unveiled in Latham on Monday.
King Thiel II at 11 Elks Lane is home to 99 apartments. They are two and one bedrooms, all fully equipped with appliances.
The ribbon was cut on the new building Monday morning at 11 Elks Lane, the former Colonie Elks Lodge.
State Assemblyman Phil Steck was among the people there. He helped secure $2 million to help push the project over the finish line.
The first of the King Thiel buildings has a long wait list and this second building is already completely occupied.
This is a project that took two years to complete with construction and cost challenges along the way.
Colonie Senior Services not only operates housing for people 55 years and older, but it also provides meals, social programs and transportation.
