New U.S. Attorney sworn in Albany

New U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III sworn in.

New U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III was sworn in on Monday.

Sarcone took the oath of office at the James T. Foley U.S. Courthouse in Albany. He is now the top prosecutor for the Northern District, which covers the entire Capital Region. He will be based in Albany.

From 2018 to 2021, he served as a Northeast and Caribbean regional administrator. He grew up in Westchester County. He said he is deeply humbled and honored to be named to this position.

“I’m honored to be welcomed back into this building, this time as the United States Attorney, to lead the men and women of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York, who are doing the important work of representing the United States in enforcing its laws – both civil and criminal,” he said. “What makes a good prosecutor? It’s not what college or law school you went to, or whether you have been a career prosecutor. As recent events show, what matters is judgment.”

Sarconi said he will pursue honest, transparent, nonpolitical enforcement of federal laws, and he said he hopes to restore public confidence in the federal government and in the Justice Department.
