Niskayuna town supervisor stepping down to rejoin UAlbany faculty full time
Niskayuna Town Supervisor Jaime Puccioni is resigning her position to resume a full-time position at the University at Albany.
Puccioni, who is in her second term, will be part of university’s new undergraduate teacher certification program. This program was implemented in the wake of the closure of the College of Saint Rose.
Puccioni had reduced her workload to part-time when she became supervisor.
She thanked the residents who have supported her.
“It is with your support that we have been able to make so much progress throughout the town, and I feel proud of where we are today,” she said in a statement.
Among the accomplishments that Puccioni cited in a news release are ending unsustainable financial policies, aggressively pursuing grants, reforming the police department including recruiting diverse officers and investing in training and technology such as body-worn cameras.
Other accomplishments are upgrading the town parks including new tennis and pickleball courts, a dog park, inclusive playground and a pavilion, bathrooms and splash pad at River Road Park. The town also has begun accepting organic waste at its treatment plant.
Deputy Supervisor Joseph Drescher will serve as acting town supervisor. The board will work with the town attorney to determine the next steps.
