Police: Bennington County man assaulted trooper
A Bennington County man is accused of assaulting a trooper.
Vermont State Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious person trespassing on a property on Route 346 in the town of Pownal on July 2 around 3:45 p.m. The property owner said the person, later identified as Leo Herbert, 20, appeared to be under the influence of a substance, according to police.

The trooper attempted to arrest him and Herbert allegedly struck him during the struggle. The trooper was not injured. Herbert was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for minor injuries.
Herbert was charged with unlawful trespass and assault. He was released on a citation and is due back in court on Aug. 26.
