Police: Granville man had gun with altered serial number

A 27-year-old Washington County man is accused of having a defaced handgun.

State Police responded to the area of Route 22 in Granville on Nov. 20 around 11:45 p.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Troopers found William E. Bailey, of Granville, in a disabled vehicle.

Bailey had a loaded gun with the serial number intentionally removed, police said.

Bailey was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and traffic violations. He was taken to Washington County pending arraignment.
