Police: Two people stole from Market 32

Two people from Amsterdam are accused of shoplifting from Market 32 on New Year’s Eve.

Sean P. Knowles and Johnathan J. Gomez, who are both 43, allegedly left the grocery store in Amsterdam without paying for $100 of merchandise on Dec. 31 just before 9:45 p.m., State Police said.

Store employees confronted them and Gomez took off. Troopers found him nearby and he resisted arrest.

Gomez was charged with felony burglary because he had been banned from the store in 2018 for similar incidents. He also faces charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Knowles was charged with petit larceny.

Knowles was released on an appearance ticket and Gomez was sent to Montgomery County Jail.
