Rensselaer County man charged with assault, DWI

A Rensselaer County man is accused of striking a person and threatening them with a knife.

Scott T. Popp, 37, of Johnsonville, got into an argument with a person on Oct. 17 just after 1 a.m. on Oct. 17, State Police said. After the threats, he left home in a vehicle. Popp allegedly damaged the victim’s phone.

At around 7:40 a.m. that same day, police found him driving a vehicle in the area of Brunswick Road. He displayed signs of intoxication.

Popp was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing, assault and driving while intoxicated.

Popp was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Count (court)  and released under the supervision of the Saratoga County Probation Department.
