Rensselaer man to get 5 years in prison for having gun as a felon
A Rensselaer man is expected to receive 5 years in prison after admitting to possessing a gun as a felon.
Thomas R. McCall, 25, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on Thursday to criminal possession of a weapon. He was arrested on March 25 after a traffic stop on South Broadway Saratoga Springs.
McCall also had heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine, according to the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office.
McCall had recently been admitted to an Albany County Drug Treatment Court program, but he was kicked out of that program following that arrest.
“Unfortunately, this is another example of convicted felons traveling northward to Saratoga Springs with loaded firearms and narcotics,” District Attorney Karen Heggen said in a statement. “The unrelenting gun violence in the Capital Region is a stark reminder that these issues impact all of us throughout the area.”
She thanked the work by the Saratoga Springs Police Department on the case.
McCall is scheduled to be sentenced on July 30.
