Retired East Greenbush Police Chief John Burns Sr. has died.

Burns was an Army Veteran, an officer with the Troy Police Department, and a Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputy prior to becoming police chief in East Greenbush.


He was also a former officer of the Troy PBA and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Chief of Police.


He was 85 years old.


Relatives and friends are invited to come pay their respects to the former chief on Monday.


The service is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Albany.
