Schenectady County seeks to use former lottery building

Schenectady County is looking to use the former New York State lottery building for office space.

The Schenectady County Legislature on Tuesday will take up a resolution on Tuesday to enter into a three-month option agreement for space at One Broadway Center. The cost is $75,000.

The facility has over 160,000 square feet of space and currently houses an office for the Social Security Administration on the eighth floor.

The county is looking into more office space as its current facility opened in 1962 and is aging and needs significant repairs and modernization including upgrading the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, according to a statement from the county.

County officials are evaluating space needs.

The agreement gives the county the right to purchase the building for $12.5 million. The county would receive $2.7 million from the federal government for the Social Security office space.
