Sheriff: Canajoharie woman faces drug charges after traffic stop

A Canajoharie woman is facing multiple drug charges after a traffic stop.
Deputies stopped Katie E. Newkirk, 32, on Jan. 26 on East Grand Street in the village of Palatine Bridge for an expired inspection, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Newkirk had active warrants for her arrest, police said. A search of the vehicle found crack cocaine, prescription pills, as well as packaging materials, a digital scale and various other articles used in the sale of narcotic.
Newkirk was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, bail jumping, aggravated unlicensed operation, uninspected motor vehicle and controlled substance in non-original container. She was arraigned in Palantine Court and sent to Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
