Sheriff: Colonie man struck deputy with door during traffic stop

A Colonie man allegedly struck a sheriff’s deputy with his car door during a traffic stop.

Albany County Sheriff’s deputies saw a speeding car just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, and pulled the vehicle over in the area of Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, Marquis A. Potts, refused to identify himself at first, investigators said. Potts would not get out of the vehicle, and he closed the door, hitting the deputy.

Potts was charged with obstructing governmental administration and a traffic violation. He was released on an appearance ticket.

He is currently under the supervision of probation after his arrest in September 2024 in the town of Bethlehem on weapons charges.
