St. Peter’s is working to address a lack of health care workers in the Capital Region through a new nursing partnership.

Two college nursing programs, St. Peter’s Hospital College of Nursing and Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, are joining with Caring Gene, a nonprofit focused on helping people start their career in health care.

The goal is to provide more support to people in the Capital Region interested in nursing.

“To qualify for the program, students must commit to a three-year service commitment with a healthcare, behavioral health, or social care network provider in New York state that serves a patient population of at least 30% Medicaid-reliant or uninsured individuals,” St. Peter’s said in a statement. “Additionally, students must complete their degree by Spring 2027 and fulfill the service requirement by 2031.”
As part of the program, eligible students can get full scholarships for degrees in healthcare.
