Stefanik files ethics complaint against special counsel
Elise Stefanik, who is House GOP Conference Chair, filed an ethics complaint with the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility claiming that Special Counsel Jack Smith has made multiple attempts to rush the trial regarding Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is alleging that the special counsel investigating former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election is abusing government resources to interfere with the 2024 election.
Stefanik, who is House GOP Conference Chair, filed an ethics complaint with the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility claiming that Special Counsel Jack Smith has made multiple attempts to rush the trial regarding Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
Stefanik alleges that Smith violated an order that stayed the proceedings pending an appeal by seeking a Jan. 2. 2024 trial date and asking the Supreme Court for a expedited review of appeal in December, bypassing the normal appellate process.
