Troy mayor shares plans to revitalize Frear Park

Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello says she will invest $5 million in federal funds to transform Frear Park.

Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello is sharing plans to revitalize the city’s largest park.

Under the proposal, the city will invest $5 million in federal funds to transform Frear Park, Mantello said.

Troy was awarded $42 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. The $5 million is what’s left over from other projects, Mantello said.

The money will be used to buy new playground equipment, upgrade the tennis courts and bring current facilities up to code.

However, Troy City Council President Sue Steele said the announcement is premature.

“The council is scheduled to act on this proposal tonight,” Steele said on Monday. “So any announcement before that action, is wishful thinking.”

The proposal was rushed, according to Steele, and the council received it over the weekend.
