Troy receives eight proposals for city hall space

The city of Troy could soon be getting a new city hall. Mayor Carmella Mantello said the city received eight proposals. It made a request back in April for a permanent location. Requirements included an area of 30,000 to 45,000 square feet and there had to be public access. An in-house committee will review the submissions, conduct interviews and narrow down the choice.

Troy could soon be getting a new city hall.

The city received eight proposals, according to Mayor Carmella Mantello. It made a request back in April for a permanent location. It’s currently located in the Headley Building on River Street.

Requirements included an area of 30,000 to 45,000 square feet and there had to be public access.

An in-house committee will review the submissions, conduct interviews and narrow down the choice. The decision could come within the next three months.

City Council President Sue Steele and Councilmembers Aaron Vera and Katie Spain-McLaren criticized the lack of transparency on the process including not being forthcoming with questions on the budget. They said the city should pause the effort to find new space and prioritize projects that directly help families, including a new swimming pool in Knickerbacker Park, construction of a new Lansingburgh Fire Station, upgrades at the City Water Treatment Plant, investments in city roadways and critical infrastructure and improvements to city parks.
