Troy woman allegedly obtained nearly $14,000 in fraudulent welfare benefits

A Troy woman is accused of fraudulently obtaining nearly $14,000 in welfare benefits.

Crystal Michel, 36, was arrested after an investigation determined that she provided false information to Rensselaer County Social Services, according to a news release.

Michel was charged with grand larceny. She was arraigned in Troy Police Court and released.

Rensselaer County is asking anyone to report suspected fraud or abuse of public welfare programs by calling 1-833-DSSTIPS, 518 -266-7942 or emailing DSSTIPS@rensco.com. All information received is kept confidential.
