U.S. Attorney: UAlbany ex-researcher was funded by Chinese government
The Research Foundation of SUNY has paid $313,574 to resolve a lawsuit claiming a UAlbany researcher didn’t disclose receiving financial support from China.
The settlement concerns grants that the university received from NASA and NOAA grants. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Dr. Qilong Min, a research scientist, did not disclose his affiliations and financial support from the People’s Republic of China, on three federal grants.
Specifically, Min was employed by Wuhan University and participated in a Chinese program that aimed to recruit people with access to foreign technology intellectual property.
UAlbany fired Min during this investigation, prosecutors said.
The foundation has paid $313,574 to resolve civil allegations that it failed to disclose the connection.
There was no admission of liability.
