12 dead geese found near Selkirk water plant

Twelve dead geese were found Friday near a water plant in Selkirk.

Bethlehem Police quickly notified the New York Department of Health and Environmental Conservation after finding the dead birds.

Dozens of geese have been found dead across parts of the northeast this week, including in New Jersey and on Long Island.

The concern is this is tied to bird flu.

There was a plan to shut down the taps at that Selkirk plant, and draw water from a plant in Albany. However, the Department of Health now says that’s not necessary.

They said if this is bird flu, the virus would be taken care of through the plant’s filtration system, and they advise increasing the chlorine level as a precaution.
