In the last two decades, more and more Americans have died from drinking-related causes. A study shows alcohol-related deaths are rising faster among women than men.

When Leslie Collura first heard the news, the numbers surprised her, she said.

Then she started to think about all the women who’ve come into the recovery center she works at in Saratoga Springs.

“It’s all different. I have some that say they’ve only considered themselves to have a problem for a few months to a year or some of them saying, ‘You know, I’ve done it so long I never thought it was a problem,’” Collura explained.

Collura has her own story about a path to sobriety. After a few failed attempts, she was scared straight into giving up alcohol forever.
