13-mile police chase ended in Little Falls, Fulton County, officials say

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office says a 13-mile police chase that originated in Herkimer County, ended in Little Falls, Fulton County on Thursday.

Police say around 3:15 p.m., two deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling County Highway 120 in Oppenheim, when they saw a female standing in the middle of the road with her vehicle blocking southbound traffic flow.

Authorities say they made contact with her, later identified as Renee A. Day, 49, of Ilion, NY, and it appeared she was under the influence of drugs.

She re-entered her vehicle and took off at a high rate of speed, officials said.

Deputies say they pursued her into Herkimer County and through Fulton County into Little Falls, extending out to 13 miles since she drove off, as Day failed to comply with police.

A Fulton County Corporal attempted to use stop sticks on the vehicle, but was unsuccessful due to Day swerving and nearly striking the Corporal, said police.

State Police and Little Falls Police assisted the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in taking Day into custody without injuries. Police say they found meth on Day.

Day was charged with the following:

  • First-degree reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs and/or alcohol
  • Third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, including speeding over 90 mph
  • Traffic infractions

She was held for a central arraignment part arraignment, arraigned, and released.
