Officer-involved shooting in Utica

A 13-year-old was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Utica late Friday night.

The State Attorney General’s Office is now involved in this investigation.

Utica’s Police Chief says it started when officers stopped two juveniles regarding a police investigation.

Police say the 13-year-old boy ran away, and officers started a foot chase.

During the chase, the chief says the 13-year-old displayed what appeared to be a handgun, and the officer fired his weapon, hitting the boy.

He was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Officers later found out the 13-year-old was carrying a replica glock handgun.

Authorities say body cam footage is expected to be released soon.
