The North Colonie Central School District said it will enroll 40 new students from migrant families on Thursday, which is the first time an official number has been released.
A registration team is also in place to help guide these families through the enrollment process.
DocGo, the company responsible for providing services to migrants, said it was signing up migrant children living in Albany county for local schools, with two events scheduled for later in August.
However, Albany City Schools said they have not yet received communication from Docgo about enrolling children in their district.
Ron Lesko, The Communications Director for Albany City Schools, said they will be ready to accommodate any number of English language learners.
Lesko released a statement, saying “Our city and our school district have welcomed a growing number of English language learners over the past 10 to 15 years. English language learners comprise about 12% of our total student population.”
