Accused killer won’t show up for court; DA withdraws plea deal

Plea deal for man accused of murder off table

Plea deal for man accused of murder off table after the suspect refused to show up for court.

A plea deal for a man accused of killing an Albany man during a fight in February is off the table after prosecutors said he refused to show up for court.

Keron Payne, 35, allegedly killed Jieshi Williams on Feb. 23.

Police said Payne and his girlfriend were arguing with another couple at a home on the 300 block of Clinton Avenue, when the fight became physical. Williams was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he died.

Payne was offered a deal in which he would have pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. In exchange, he would have received a sentence of 18 years in prison and 5 years of post-release supervision, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Payne refused to be produced from the jail and the offer was withdrawn, the DA’s Office said.

No trial date has been set.
