Advocates met with Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple on Thursday to express concerns about what they say are inhumane conditions at the jail.

They claim that reports of extreme violence, medical neglect, and deliberate cover-ups by correctional staff and administrators have become impossible to ignore. It is a systemic issue.

Apple said that at this point, all they have heard are allegations.

“We’re not here to dismiss them. Quite the opposite. Allegations deserve to be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. And that is exactly what we’re committed to doing.
