Albany County executive says he’s ‘committed’ to term amid airport CEO drama

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy commented Tuesday on controversy surrounding the Albany Airport CEO job.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy gave his first on camera comments about the controversy surrounding the Albany Airport CEO job.

As NewsChannel 13 has been reporting, Airport CEO Phil Calderone will be leaving his job later this year after the Airport Authority Board refused to renew his contract.

There is speculation this was a backroom political deal that failed to gain altitude for McCoy, who has since said he’s not interested in replacing Calderone.

“You know, you look at opportunities. When I was a fireman, I wanted to be a lieutenant. When I was a lieutenant, you want to be a captain. You just look at opportunities and it’s flattering. I’m committed to my term. I said that,” McCoy said.

Sixteen members of the Albany County Legislature have sent a letter to the Airport Authority urging the seven members to reconsider their decision to fire Calderone.
