Albany County officially buys dilapidated Central Warehouse property
Albany County has officially finalized the purchase of the old Central Warehouse property. That means the next steps can be taken to take the building down.
County Executive Dan McCoy announced Friday the county will be removing the old Central Warehouse, but keeping the land and transforming it into something everybody can enjoy.
The 11-story tall building is easy to spot as you drive into Albany on I-787. It’s also easy to spot that the entire structure has fallen into serious disrepair.
It was built back in 1927, but abandoned around 1990.
It’s taken years, but now that the county of Albany has ownership of the decaying property, they can demolish it, and replace it with something much better.
McCoy is hoping to announce soon who will be getting the contract to bring down and remove the building, he said.
One of the first tasks will be handling the dangerous asbestos inside.
That is expected to start this spring or summer.
