Albany decreases city speed limit from 30 mph to 25

Albany votes to lower speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph

Albany votes to lower speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

The Albany City Council has voted to lower the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

It was a unanimous decision. The council has been working on this issue since 2022.

Council President Corey Ellis said it is part of a broader effort to keep vehicles and pedestrians safe.

“We’ve seen an increase in speeding in our city. That’s why council members fought to get speed bumps in their neighborhoods to try to decrease speeding,” he said.

The change will take effect as soon as the city can switch the signs, Ellis said.
