An Albany man is accused of stealing a car. Deputies stopped James R. Schmidt, 47, in the village of Ravena just after 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. Schmidt had made an illegal turn through a red light and the car did not have any license plates, according to the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies stopped James R. Schmidt, 47, in the village of Ravena just after 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. Schmidt had made an illegal turn through a red light and the car did not have any license plates, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Schmidt allegedly stole the car from a business parking lot less than a mile away, police said.

Schmidt was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operator. He was held pending arraignment at Albany County Jail.
