Albany man admits to fatally stabbing brother-in-law

An Albany man is expected to receive 20 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday to killing his brother-in-law.

Ashley Heshmat, 45, admitted in Albany County Court to fatally stabbing Justin Bishop in January in the home they shared on Rose Court. The two were roommates.

Bishop was a beloved nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital for 18 years, but had left the hospital before his death.

After the killing, Heshmat dumped a car and Bishop’s cell phone at several locations in Albany, investigators said.
