Albany man arrested in connection with Troy rape

An Albany man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault in Troy.

Marcus Cooper, 39, has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.

It happened on Dec. 13, 2024, according to Troy Police. Officers responded to a report of a person in need of medical attention. The victim was taken to a local hospital.

Troy Police said Cooper knew the victim.

Police were able to confirm Cooper’s identity with the help of the New York State Police Forensic Lab.

A grand jury indicted Cooper last month and an arrest warrant was issued.

Cooper turned himself in on March 25 at the Troy City Court, where he was arraigned.

Troy Police are reminding the public that April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, and they are asking that anyone that is a victim of sexual assault to come forward and report it.
