Albany man charged in 2021 killing of Shaker High student
A second person has been charged in the 2021 killing of Shaker High School student.
Sincere Cancer, 22, of Albany, allegedly caused the death of 15-year-old Destiny Greene during a robbery in the area of Wilbur Street on May 24, 2021.
The incident happened during what police called a social media transaction gone wrong. Greene wasn’t the intended target.
Cancer is also facing charges for an incident on July 22, 2021, in which he is accused of having a loaded gun and recklessly engaging in conduct that created a grave risk of death to another person, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
Cancer has been arrested in March and last September on drug charges. On Sept.12, 2023 he allegedly had compounds containing cocaine in the area of Trinity Place. He also is accused of having an illegal firearm.
Cancer was arrested again on drug charges on March 20, 2024 in the area of Second Street.
Cancer has been charged with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and three counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Cancer pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday in Albany County Court.
Branden Rivera, of Albany was sentenced in January 2023 to 25 years to life in prison for shooting and killing Greene.
Greene was described by friends and family as having a keen fashion sense and loved to act and model.
Her family created the “My Destiny Scholarship Foundation” to award $500 to students to help them continue their education.
